The Man She Loved It was a gloriously beautiful morning. She mounts to the hill slowly, very slowly. The hill, dotted with pine trees, is decked out with flowers for the passing spring. A blast of wind touches her peaked face and the sympathetic ground kisses her inched foot. Still, she is walking as if she knew nothing. She eventually reaches the crest of the hill before noon .Nothing special on the top of the hill except an abandoned church, old, ragged and unlocked. Surprisingly, instead of stepping in she sits down on the doorway, leaning against the wall. White-dressed, blue-eyed, her black hair piled at the rear of her head. Staring at the biggest trees not far away from her for long time, her face suddenly reveals an aimless smile. Then, she curls herself up and closes her eyes with her face buried in her arms.Back to the last “Laura!” Oh, he is calling her! She turns around. A big smile blossoms on her face like the petals of many flowers expand in the sunshine. A few yards away, her boy is standing there. “Jimmy! Where were you going? I have been waiting for you for nearly an hour.” She looks into his eyes and talks to him with pretend angry, waiting for his sweet words. However, he doesn’t answer her question. He is just looking at her, with all his heart and soul. She clutches his arm and a strange sorrow sweeps her. “Why? Why racing?” She says, tears rolling down her checks. “You, Laura, because of you.” he answers.“You’ll never know how happy I was when you gave your hands to me. I want to give you a wedding ring.”

“No! No! I don’t need a ring at all! I need you!” Her heart is shouting, her body is shaking but she can’t say even a word. “Laura, I have something very important to tell you. I…” “Stop ! Jimmy, please! Don’t leave me.” She implores him and plunges herself into his bosom. He tightens his arm and kisses her blackjet hair. “I’m sorry, Laura. I love you.” He looks at her for a long time. Then, he disappears as if he has never existed in this world. A gust of wind rakes her white skirt, which shatters her dream and brings her back to the reality. She raises her head and opens her weeping eyes. In the front of her lies are the pine trees. She comes to herself and realizes that Jimmy died on the car racing ground a month ago even without seeing her once more. And he will never ever get back. FunctionLaura acts like they just parted for a short time.It seems to her that Jimmy's appearance is natural and real.Besides she is overwhelmed by the sight of seeing him. The "strange sorrow" serves as a hint which wakes Laura up from her joy of meeting Jimmy.

Laura comes to realize it was the ring that made her lose her Jimmy. This is also a foreshadowing and a suspense.Jimmy sounds a little serious. Laura knows what Jimmy is going to talk about and she is afraid that Jimmy will disappear after uttering the words.The thought that Jimmy is to leave her makes Laura's emotion out of control and she pleads with Jimmy to stay.

Jimmy indicates that he has to leave reluctantly.
