ItisimportantanddifficulttodeterminetheKaiserpointaccuratelyinmeasurementofgeo-stresswithacousticemission(AE).TheacousticemissionsignalsofsomesandstonesamplesareanalyzedwithRescaledRange(R/S)method.Itisfoundthatthereisagoodlinearcorrelationbetweenlg(R/S)andlogisticspacingsoftime,andallthecorrelationcoefficientsaremorethan0.97.SotheconclusioncanbereachedthattheAEsignalcurvesarefractal.AnotherexperimentresultshowsthatHurstindex(H)oftheAEsignalcurvesindifferentloadstepscanreflectthevariationtendencyofsignals.TheAEsignalwillbestrongerwhenH>0.5,anditisweakerwhenH<0.5.OnthebasisofthischaracterofHurstindex,theKaiserpointcanbedeterminedcor-rectlybycalculatingtheHurstindexofAEsignalcurve.Applicationshowsthatthismethodiseffective.Keywords:groundstress;measurement;acousticemission;fractal;KaisereffectAboutthefirstauthor:XUEYa-dongisalecturer.HeobtainedMSdegreefromShanxiMiningInstitutein1996.NowheisstudyinginrockmechanismforPh.DdegreeattheDepartmentofPetroleumEngineeringintheUniversityofPetroleum,China(Beijing:102200).ZHANGGuang-qing,LUYong-mingandCHENMian/BULKINGLOADOFDRILLPIPEUNDERTORQUEANDAXIALFORCEINSLANTHOLE/2000,24(5):4~6Theenergymethodisemployedtostudythebulkingloadofdril-lpipesundertorqueandaxialforceinslanthole.
