He tries to work hard in the past forty-two years but he isn’t a lucky man and never catches a thief(小偷). He is often sorry for it.

He came in the shop and found a young man stealing some money from a woman's bag. He ran to the thief quickly, but the young man found it and ran away at once. Mr. Clarke ran after him. The thief ran into a blind alley(死胡同)and Mr. Clarke caught him at last.
"Please give me a chance, sir," said the young man. "I never stole before."
"Who will give me a chance?" said Mr. Clarke. "I'll soon retire and I've caught a thief for the first

In the past, when students graduated from college and got jobs, only some of them went on with their study. But today, lifelong learning is becoming more and more popular.
Lucy, who is forty, teaches physics at a college in Boston. “Next term, I’ll teach some of my classes by using the Internet. This is the way of teaching that I’ve never used before,” says Lucy. “These days, I am taking a class to learn how to teach in this way. If not, I will lose my job.” At the same time, Lucy’s seventy-year-old parents, who live in Washington D.C., are taking an art history class online. “We love this subject,” says her father, “and we learn it to enjoy ourselves. You see we can study with people all over the world. What fun it is to learn like this!”

Do you want to be healthier but don’t know how to?
It is very important to exercise and eat the right food to keep healthy.
You do not need to spend all day doing exercise to keep healthy. Waking to school, washing clothes or climbing stairs every day can help. It is a pity that many young people forget these simple and easy ways to keep healthy.
Different kinds of exercises such as running, swimming and playing football make you feel well. They also help you to do better at school.
To keep healthy weight, it is important to have the right amount(数量) of calories for your age. The calories is the measure(度量) of how much energy food gives us.
Doctor Zheng Chengning says boys and girls need different amounts of calories. Girls between 12-15 should have 1,800 calories a day and boys around 2,000. She also says that corn, vegetables and fruits are good choices for daily meals instead of foods like hamburgers and ice-cream.

Good morning, boys and girls. My name is Frank Johnson. Now let me tell you something about our museum. To you maybe it's just four white walls and a ceiling, but to us it's a treasure. Here you'll see some of the best British physicists. For example, you'll see Newton, who was born in 1642. He went to study at college in 1661. During the years 1665—1666, he made his most important discoveries. It is said that Newton got his idea when an apple fell on his head! Another British physicist William Thomson went to study at college when he was just ten years old. He became a professor at the age of 22. He found clear relationships among heat, work and energy. And of course, James Watt, the famous engineer! At the age of 20, he began to make useful things at college. He improved the steam engine and made it more powerful.
OK, boys and girls. You may go and see it now. Have fun!

Who are the top students in the world, do you know? Last week the Organization for Economic Co-operation Development (经济合作与发展组织) picked the best students in the world. They are Finnish (芬兰的). The OECD gave a test to 280,000 15-year-old students from more than 40 countries and regions last year. The OECD wanted to know how well students were doing at school.
Finnish students were No.1 in the reading test and second in maths after Chinese students. Those from Japan and Finland were top in science. In the problem solving, Finnish students came second to those from America. The test also showed Finland had more top students than the other countries.
Finns (芬兰人) of your age have done a really good job but don't have a sense of envy. You can learn
from them. Most Finnish students make good use of the Internet. Of course not for computer games, but for doing more exercises and finding out more information.
Libraries are also important. Finland spends a lot of money on them. Many students have a free card. They read for at least one or two hours a day.
What do you usually do on the Internet? How often do you go to libraries?
