Supper/DinnerIf the dinner is taken in the evening, it is usually sumptuous. three courses at least are prepared for the evening dinner. Supper means a light meal taken in the evening. It is less grand and usually cold.

The English people are very strict about privacy. They think the private matters are their own things. You should mind your own business. There are some other questions you should never ask an Englishman unless you know him very well. Firstly, don’t ask about money matters, such as income or salary of friend, or prices of their possessions. Secondly, don’t ask woman’s age and personal questions, or remark.

At the same time, it’s impolite to be curious about the private affairs of other, even your friend. Never try to hear a conversation when it is not intended for you.

Now there is a Queen in Britain. If you attend important public occasions, you will commonly hear the solemn song “God Save the Queen”.

When this national anthem is played, still most English people stand up. If you were at an important banquet, when you drink wine or spirit, the first toast is always to the Queen.

The leading officer will stand up and say “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Queen”. Then all the persons present will drink, saying “the Queen”. There are a lot of customs like this to show respect for their Queen. In America someone can criticize or joke about the President, but in Britain people are never allowed to joke about the King or Queen.
