Strive for a better Life
In China, people always promote the principle of the golden mean from the Confucian school of thought-to be moderate and not to be so aggressive. Some people maintain that we should be satisfied with everything we hold in our hands. All we have to do is to enjoy the simple life we live now rather than the excitement we have to strive to get.
However, I cannot agree with them. If we don’t strive for a better life, we will not own the beauty of the world. Today, the pace of life is increasing. If we don’t strive, we’ll never enjoy the convenient life. If we don’t strive, we may be abandoned from our families, friends and the world.
The day you come to the world, nothing on earth happens only by means of good luck or bad luck. As you grow up, you experience things. Sometimes you may underestimate yourself for everything you have paid has not rewarded by what you have expected to get. However, life is like a rainbow. It can only be seen after the rainstorm. That’s to say, any obstacles you can’t overcome now may become a fortune some time later.
At the sight of the blade of grass breaks the barren ground with his broaden smile on the edge of the cliff, I was marveled and touched by the power which can overcome the extreme adversity. Though the grass looked so frail and vulnerable that the freezing rain and the unmerciful heat from the sun seems so cruel to it, he never yields to the god. The grass has no blight flowers, but it handles frost. The grass is not as tall as the trees, but still very resilient and fortitude. Even the weak grass knows that he should quest for living, not to mention the superior humans with brain and soul.
After the World War II, Nagasaki and Hiroshima were regarded as the idea of hell on earth by a large percentage of people. At the very instant, the city was almost completely destroyed. Lots of people razed to the ground. People who survived were immersed in a sadness atmosphere for the atomic bombs dropped on the populated areas. People were
suffering the plight of homeless, the increasing affliction of pain at that time. People then feel it an impossible thing and even viewed it as a hallucination for the disaster took away lovers, air skin and even millions of people in an instant. But, had Hiroshima become “a city of death” then? Fortunately, the answer was not. Though it was become “a city filled with death”, it hadn’t become “a city of death”, “a city of hopelessness”. They strived, they reconstructed the city. If people have never struggled for existence, they would never put their grief behind and rebuilt their cities. They have to strive, or they will die. If they are all pessimistic, the city wouldn’t have become a strong force during the postwar resettlement in Asia. People sufferings disasters never abandon their hope, they have to struggle, to strive. Though we are not facing the extreme adversities, we should also do our best to make ourselves better ones.
In the pursuit of knowledge, I started my high school. Since that time my little world turned grey. The joys of learning, the ease of mind which I was expecting turned out to be windy. In my mind, my life was boring and empty, I couldn’t find my way. I even didn’t know where to go, what to do. That time, the despair, pain and sadness lingering on my mind throughout every night. However, the trees, flowers, birds, rivers comes to my eyes in the early morning reminded me that today was another day. The colorful world made me renew the fire of hope and my cold heart burned again. From then on, I started to realize the endless night means a new day’s coming. I should strive instantly, or keep thinking the ridiculous thoughts and never get a success.
Life is so short. Becoming old and going to another world may be everyone’s fate. No
one can escape from them. But this cannot be the excuse for our laziness. We should still strive. Since the life is so short, we should strive more diligently. We should strive like the grass to endure every painful thing. We should be brave like a solider to set a goal and be passionate on it. The hardship and stress can’t stop us. Natural or man-made disasters can not daunt us, either. They’ll convert into power and opportunities to guide us positive attitudes toward life. Since the difficulties cannot defeat us, how can the easiness kill our will? Maybe we can use the words Sharkspere described his friend to talk about striving,” So long as man can breath or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee.”
