4CONCLUSIONS
ANd:YAGlaser–gasmetalarchybridwelding
experimentwasperformedwiththeexperimental
directionsdictatedbyanL18orthogonalarrayas
suggestedbyTaguchi.Theultimatetensilestrength
wasmeasuredinordertoevaluatetheweldability.
Agreyrelationalanalysisapproachwasadoptedto
optimizethehybridweldingperformancecharacter-
isticsintoasingleperformancecharacteristic,called
thegreyrelationalgrade.Thistechniquesimplifies
theoptimizationofcomplicatedperformancechar-
acteristics.Theanalyticalresultofthegreyrelational
analysisshowsanexcellentagreementwiththe
TaguchiDOEapproachandthemostsignificant
hybridweldingparametersarethelaserfocus,the
weldingwirefeedrate,andtheweldingwiretype.
Theexperimentalresultfortheoptimumsetting
givesmuchbetterweldingconditionsthanthe
preliminarysetting.
