shallapplytothefollowingclassesoftoysintendedforusebychildrenaged60monthsorless:ride-ontoys,withthreeormoreloadbearingwheels,suchaswagons;ride-on,action-typetoyssuchashobbyhorses,rockingtoys(forexample,horses,cars);andtoyseats.Ride-ontoysofspherical,cylindrical,orothershapethatdonotnormallyhaveastablebasearenotcoveredbytheserequirements.Thetoyshallconformtotheserequirementsafteritistestedinaccordancewith8.5-8.10.4.15.2SidewaysStabilityRequirements—Theserequire-mentsrecognizetwotypesofpossiblestabilityhazards:thoseassociatedwithride-ontoysortoyseatsinwhichthefeetcanprovidestabilization,andthosesituationsinwhichthefeetarerestrictedbyanenclosingstructure.

4.15.2.1SidewaysStability,FeetAvailableforStabilization—Thereshallbenosidewaysstabilitytestforthoseride-ontoysortoyseatsinwhichtheheightoftheseatfromthegroundisonethird,orlessthanonethird,oftheheightindicatedinTable3atthelowestageoftheagerangeforwhichtheride-ontoyortoyseatisintended,andinwhichthelegsofthechildareunrestrictedintheirsidewaysmotionandthusareavailableforstabilization.(ThevaluesgiveninTable3representthelowerofthefollowingtwonumbers:(1)the fthpercentilegroupofboysateachagefrom1uptoandincluding5years;and(2)the fthpercentilegroupofgirlsat

eachagefrom1uptoandincluding5years.)Forthoseride-ontoys,ortoyseatsinwhichtheheightoftheseatfromthegroundisgreaterthanonethirdoftheheightindicatedinTable3atthelowestageoftheagerangeforwhichtheride-ontoyortoyseatisintended,andinwhichthelegsofthechildareunrestrictedintheirsidewaysmotionandthusareavailableforstabilization,thetoyshallnottipwhentestedinaccordancewith8.15.WhenthelowestageoftheintendedagerangefallsbetweentwoageslistedinTable3,thelowerofthetwoshallbechosen.

4.15.2.2SidewaysStability,FeetUnavailableforStabilization—Ifthesidewaysmotionofthefeetorlegs,orboth,isrestricted,suchasbytheenclosedsidesofatoyautomobile,theride-ontoyortoyseatshallnottipwhentestedasspeci edin8.15,exceptthatthesurfaceshallbeinclined15°tothehorizontal.

4.15.3ForeandAftStability—Thisrequirementrelatestothestabilityofride-ontoysortoyseatsintheforwarddirectionwithrespecttothechild’sposition,wherethechildcannoteasilyusehis/herlegsforstabilization,andinthebackwarddirectionwithrespecttothechildregardlessofwhetherhis/herlegsareavailableforstabilization.Allride-ontoysortoyseatsfallingwithinthescopeof4.15shallnottipforwardorbackwardwhenthetoy,whichshallbeloadedwitha
