Abstract:DrinkingwatersafetyisaprominentenvironmentalissuefacingChinasinceitisrelatedtohumanhealthdirectly.Basedonthestatisticaldatafromarticles,thecharacteristicsandcausesofthedrinkingwaterpollutionaccidentsandtheirdamagetothehumansocietyareanalyzed.About152typicaldrinkingwaterpollutionaccidentswhichhappenedinChinaduringtheperiod1986-2005wereanalyzedinthisstudy.Theresultsshowthat133accidents,about87.5%ofthetotal,occurredduringtheperiod1995-2005,andEastChinaistheareawithhighfrequencywhere44accidentsoccurred.Allpollutionaccidentsarechemicalor/andbiological,andbiologicalpollutionaccidentsaccountfor69.1%.Asviewedfrompollutionplaces,almosthalfoftheaccidentsoccurredinresidentialareas,nextinschools.Asviewedfromwatersupplylinks,pollutionofwatersourceisthemainreasonforaccidentswhichaccountsfor56.6%ofthetotal.Asviewedfrompollutiontype,pollutionfromdailylifeisthemainreasonwhichresultedin65.1%ofthetotalaccidents,andthenindustrialpollution.Drinkingwaterpollutionaccidentshavebadlyaffectedresidents'normaldrinkablewater,evenledtowater-bornediseasesbreakingoutorpoisoning.Inordertoactualizesafedrinkingwater,correspondingstrategyisbroughtforwardfordefendingandtreatingdrinkingwater
