Editor sNote:ThegreatsocialandeconomicachievementsinChinasince1949,andespeciallyinthepastthirtyplusyearsofreformandopeningup,havetosomedegreeremoldedglobalideasofdevelopment,offeredamajorchallengetovariousWesterntheoriesanddoctrines,andprovidednewopportunitiesforthecontemporarydevelopmentofhumanitiesandsocialsciences.Inordertomeetthechallengesofourtimeandthedemandsofsocio economicdevelopmentandtoadvancetheconstructionofanacademicsystemwithChinesecharacteristics,aChinesestyleandaChinesespirit,SocialSciencesinChinaPresshelditsthird(September2009,Xi an)andfourth(August2010,Yichun)forumsonsocialsciencesfrontierstudiesinChinawithNorthwestUniversityandHeilongjiangUniversityrespectively,onthesubjectof thecontemporaryconstructionoftheChinesesystemofacademicdiscourse."Onthebasisofthetwoforums,wehaveorganizedthissetofarticles.
ProfessorWuXiaomingfromtheSchoolofPhilosophyofFudanUniversitybelievesthatwhatiscrucialishowcontemporaryacademicdiscoursecanenterdeepintothespecificcontentproducedbyourhistoricalpractice,sothatthiscontentcanbetrulygraspedintellectuallyandstudiedacademically.ProfessorBingZhengoftheCenterforFundamentalsofPhilosophy,JilinUniversity,arguesthatcontemporaryphilosophicalthemesanddiscoursesystemsshouldchangewiththerequirementsofculturaldevelopmentandthatweshouldexploreanewnationalspiritbasedonculturalreflectionsandculturalcritique,theconstructionofspecificculturalideasandculturalinheritanceandinnovation.ProfessorQuLindongoftheSchoolofHistoryofBeijingNormalUniversityholdsthatweshouldconstructthe skeleton"ofahistoricaldiscoursesystemincontemporaryChinaonthebasisofanewunderstandingofMarxisthistoricalmaterialism;strengthenresearchonthelegacyofChinesehistoriographyasamajorsourceofthisdiscoursesystem;and,withabroadfieldofvisionandanopenmind,learnfromanddigestthepositivefindingsofoverseashistoriographyasasupplementtotheChinesediscoursesystem.ZhengHangsheng,fromtheCenterforStudiesofSociologicalTheoryandMethodofRenminUniversityofChina,believesthatChinesesociologyhasundertakenanodysseyfromunconsciousnesstoconsciousnessinpromotingthelocalizationofsociology,creatingacademicdiscourseandgraspingacademicdiscoursepower.Tomovefromtheperipherytothecenter,Chinesesociologymustgainabettercontrolofdiscoursepowerandreachthecommandingheightsofdiscoursepoweronabasisoftheoreticalconsciousness.ZengLingliang,theCheungKongProfessoroftheInstituteofInternationalLawofWuhanUniversity,pointsoutthattheconstructionofthediscoursesystemofinternationallawincontemporaryChinashould,ontheonehand,systematicallyreflectthebasiccontentandfundamentalfeaturesofcontemporaryinternationallawandjurisprudenceandtheirdiscoursesystem,andontheotherhand,comprehensively,correctlyandinatimelywayembodyChineseinnovationsinthisregardsince1949,especiallyinthepastthirtyyearsofreformandopeningup.
