17.1Galvanizedpipeorderedunderthisspeci cationshallbecoatedwithzincinsideandoutsidebythehot-dipprocess.ThezincusedforthecoatingshallbeanygradeofzincconformingtoSpeci cationB6.
17.2Weight(Mass)perUnitAreaofCoating—Theweight(mass)perunitareaofzinccoatingshallbenotlessthan1.8oz/ft2[0.55kg/m2]asdeterminedfromtheaverageresultsofthetwospecimenstakenfortestinthemannerprescribedin17.5andnotlessthan1.6oz/ft2[0.49kg/m2]foreachofthesespecimens.Theweight(mass)perunitareaofcoating,ex-pressedinouncespersquarefoot[kilogramspersquaremetre]shallbecalculatedbydividingthetotalweight(mass)ofzinc,insideplusoutside,bythetotalarea,insideplusoutside,ofthesurfacecoated.Eachspecimenshallhavenotlessthan1.3oz/ft2[0.40kg/m2]ofzinccoatingoneachsurface,calculatedbydividingthetotalweight(mass)ofzinconthegivensurface(outsideorinside)bytheareaofthesurfacecoated(outsideorinside).
17.3Weight(Mass)perUnitAreaofCoatingTest—Theweight(mass)perunitareaofzinccoatingshallbedeterminedbystrippingtestsinaccordancewithTestMethodA90/A90M.17.4TestSpecimens—Testspecimensfordeterminationofweight(mass)perunitareaofcoatingshallbecutapproxi-mately4in.[100mm]inlength.
17.5NumberofTests—Twotestspecimensforthedetermi-nationofweight(mass)perunitareaofcoatingshallbetaken,onefromeachendofonelengthofgalvanizedpipeselectedatrandomfromeachlotof500lengths,orfractionthereof,ofeachsize.
17.6Retests—Iftheweight(mass)perunitareaofcoatingofanylotdoesnotconformtotherequirementsspeci edin17.2,retestsoftwoadditionalpipesfromthesamelotshallbemade,eachofwhichshallconformtothespeci edrequire-ments.
17.7Ifpipeorderedunderthisspeci cationistobegalva-nized,thetension, attening,andbendtestsshallbemadeonthebasematerialbeforegalvanizing,ifpracticable.Ifspeci- ed,resultsofthemechanicaltestsonthebasematerialshallbereportedtothepurchaser.Ifitisimpracticabletomakethemechanicaltestsonthebasematerialbeforegalvanizing,itshallbepermissibletomakesuchtestsongalvanizedsamples,
andany akingorcrackingofthezinccoatingshallnotbeconsideredcauseforrejection.Ifgalvanizedpipeisbentorotherwisefabricatedtoadegreethatcausesthezinccoatingtostretchorcompressbeyondthelimitofelasticity,some akingofthecoatingisacceptable.18.Inspection
18.1Theinspectorrepresentingthepurchasershallhaveentry,atalltimeswhileworkonthecontractofthepurchaserisbeingperformed,toallpartsofthemanufacturer’sworksthatconcernthemanufactureofthepipeordered.Themanu-facturershallaffordtheinspectorallreasonablefacilitiestobesatis edthatthepipeisbeingfurnishedinaccordancewiththisspeci cation.Alltests(exceptproductanalysis)andinspectionshallbemadeattheplaceofmanufacturepriortoshipment,unlessotherwisespeci ed,andshallbesoconductedasnottointerfereunnecessarilywiththeoperationoftheworks.19.Rejection
19.1Thepurchaserispermittedtoinspecteachlengthofpipereceivedfromthemanufacturerand,ifitdoesnotmeettherequirementsofthisspeci cationbasedupontheinspectionandtestmethodasoutlinedinthespeci cation,thelengthshallberejectedandthemanufacturershallbenoti ed.Dispositionofrejectedpipeshallbeamatterofagreementbetweenthemanufacturerandthepurchaser.
19.2Pipefoundinfabricationorininstallationtobeunsuitablefortheintendeduse,underthescopeandrequire-mentsofthisspeci cation,shallbesetasideandthemanufac-turernoti ed.Suchpipeshallbesubjecttomutualinvestiga-tionastothenatureandseverityofthede ciencyandtheformingorinstallation,orboth,conditionsinvolved.Disposi-tionshallbeamatterforagreement.20.Certi cation
20.1Themanufacturerorsuppliershall,uponrequest,furnishtothepurchaseracerti cateofcompliancestatingthatthematerialhasbeenmanufactured,sampled,tested,andinspectedinaccordancewiththisspeci cation(includingyear-date),andhasbeenfoundtomeettherequirements.20.2TestReport—ForTypesEandS,themanufacturerorsuppliershallfurnishtothepurchaserachemicalanalysisreportfortheelementsgiveninTable1.
20.3EDI—Acerti cateofcomplianceortestreportprintedfrom,orusedin,electronicformfromanelectronicdatainterchange(EDI)transmissionshallberegardedashavingthesamevalidityasacounterpartprintedinthecerti er’sfacility.TheuseandformatoftheEDIdocumentaresubjecttoagreementbetweenthepurchaserandthemanufacturerorsupplier.
