Thisstandardisissuedunderthe xeddesignationD6264;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.
1.Scope
1.1Aquasi-staticindentation(QSI)testmethodisusedtoobtainquantitativemeasurementsofthedamageresistanceofacontinuous- ber-reinforcedcompositematerialtoaconcen-tratedindentationforce(Fig.1).Theindentationforceisappliedtothespecimenbyslowlypressingahemisphericalindenterintothesurface.Proceduresarespeci edfordeter-miningthedamageresistanceforasimplysupportedtestspecimenandforarigidlybackedtestspecimen.Thedamageresistanceisquanti edintermsofacriticalcontactforceassociatedwithasingleeventorsequenceofeventstocauseaspeci csizeandtypeofdamageinthespecimen.Thesetestsmaybeusedtoscreenmaterialsfordamageresistanceortoin ictdamageintoaspecimenforsubsequentdamagetoler-ancetesting.Thistestmethodislimitedtousewithcompositesconsistingoflayersofunidirectional bersorlayersoffabric.Thistestmethodmayproveusefulforothertypesandclassesofcompositematerials.Certaininterferences,however,havebeennoted(see6.7).
1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationpurposesonly.
