Introduction

As we all know, the modern society is becoming a society of information, so how to get the firsthand material is becoming the fatal element of the great accomplishment of a person, a group, or even a nation .As a country that has a close relationship with the outside world, The earnest demand for information of China is not confined within interior of country.

News is a necessary part of daily life and it is the window to the outside world. It is true that a piece of news is composed by a headline, news lead, news body, news background and conclusion. In English news, the headline is regarded as the abbreviation of the whole passage. It is said that a good beginning is half battle. A good headline does the same to a piece of news. It has got the following features: importance, nearness, prominence, interest, so the proper translation of news headlines is of much importance.

The headlines are required to be brief, novel, highly-summarized and eye-catching. So headlines of English news have got some special features in vocabularies, structures and the figure of speech .But in our daily life people usually could not get the definite meaning of the headlines which impedes readers from getting the right information. So it is of great importance to grasp proper translation skills in order to understand and appreciate the beauty of English news, and what’s more, to keep pace with the development of modern English.
